Facetté
In English use: Faceted surface modulation
Faceted surface — the polygon-net of small flat planes left by adze-carving, catching light in micro-shadows.
The totality of the small flat planes left by the herminette, which make a sculpture appear not as a homogeneous rounded volume but as a complex polygonal net. The facetté surface scatters and catches light unevenly, producing the vibration effect that German Expressionists and the French Cubists drew on.
