Nommo
Dogon primordial creator-spirits — twins, ancestor-pattern of humans, source of water and word.
In Dogon cosmology the Nommo are the first beings — eight ancestor-twins, made by the high god Amma. They are amphibious, hermaphrodite, watery — they carry the divine word and brought it down to humans on the eight strands of an iron chain.
The Nommo are depicted with raised arms (an invocation gesture, sometimes read as a rain-call), conjoined or paired forms, and a strong vertical body — features that recur throughout Dogon sculpture and read clearly to AI vision systems as a Dogon signature.
