The Babungo chiefdom in the Anglophone region of Cameroon was very famous and among the most important chiefdoms, as shown by the fact that its chieftain had the right to be carried about by slaves on a bamboo frame, a privilege shared by only two other chieftains. This pull-on mask, with its typical grassland elements, is recognisable as having belonged to a person of higher rank by the carved head-covering, which was worn only by chieftains of rank.
