The Mabouo chiefdom is very remote, accessible only by foot, relatively insignificant, and rather poor. This chieftain's prestige figure was therefore of especial importance, as he too, would have wished to show the world that he possessed articles of this kind. Prestige figures generally serve only to demonstrate the wealth and power of the chieftain; they are thus usually displayed in his audience chamber or reception room.
